Worldwide:
Today, over 22 million people have died from AIDS or AIDS related illness. Over 42 million people are currently living with HIV/AIDS with about 74% of the infected reside in Africa. Worldwide over 19 million of those infected are women. By the year 2010, the countries of Ethiopia, Nigeria, India, China, and Russia will add 50 to 75 million HIV/AIDS related cases to a growing worldwide epidemic. Everyday there are 14,000 new infections that occur. Many which are not reported, due to the fact that they are in underdeveloped countries. More incredibly is that 5 million new infections occur each year and many of these cases are in the younger generation with ages ranging from 15 to 24. Even younger are the 14 million infected orphans currently dispersed throughout the world. This figure is expected to grow to 25 million by the year 2010.
